Simon Hantaï
Born in Hungary, Simon Hantaï (1922 – 2008) graduated from Budapest School of art then moved to Paris in 1949.
He created the Pliages: the works involved the artist folding or knotting his canvas before painting large blocks of color on them, which would create unpredictable patterns of color and blank reserves once they were unfolded.
