Florian KREWER

Born in 1986, he lives and works in New York.

Florian Krewer explores the lives of young men alone or hanging out in indeterminate urban locations, showing them caught in tension and vulnerability. Eluding one-dimensional reading, the characters in Krewer’s paintings seem escaping tense situations by a kind of a levitating gesture and a dynamic placement of the figures on the canvas. Dark night oil backgrounds contrast with surprising intense pink, purple and blue lines and some understated whites and browns.

Graduated from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the class of Peter Doig, Krewer’s work has been exhibited in solo shows at Michael Werner Gallery in London (2019), at TRAMPS & Michael Werner Gallery in New York (2018) and at Tom Dick or Harry in Düsseldorf (2015) and in group shows.
