Gopal Dagnogo combines his West African heritage and Western influences in a contemporary, hybrid approach. He uses an expressive blend of painting—acrylic, pastel, and ink—on canvas and paper, without prior preparation, exploring the absurd and contradictions of everyday life in Côte d’Ivoire. His work develops a “contemporary mythology” that magnifies the banal, questioning Ivorian society and the globalization of consumption with satire and poetry, borrowing from Post-Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art.
