Born in 1997, he lives and works in Paris.<\/p>\n
In his painting, sculpture, and installation work, Pol Taburet transforms space into an interior inhabited by beings on the border between human and spectral. He draws his inspiration from his Guadeloupean heritage, paying homage to the rites and figures associated with Voodoo beliefs and practices, as well as from folktales, cartoons, hip-hop videos, and art history\u2014specifically Francis Bacon and Goya. His figures evoke the masks of Caribbean carnivals, the spirits of Voodoo, and the hoods of the Ku Klux Klan, embodying an ambivalent blend of mysticism, magic, and violence. The layering of techniques (airbrush, acrylic, oil, flat washes) produces an energized and fluid painting where nothing ever seems to settle.<\/p>\n
A graduate of the \u00c9cole nationale sup\u00e9rieure des beaux-arts de Cergy and winner of the Reiffers Art Initiatives Prize in 2022, Pol Taburet has already distinguished himself with his striking figurative work. His work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions: in galleries and at Lafayette Anticipations (Paris, 2023); Fondation d\u2019entreprise Pernod Ricard (Paris, 2023); Dhaka Art Summit (Bangladesh, 2023); Espace Niemeyer (Paris, 2022); and Reiffers Art Initiatives (Paris, 2022).<\/p>\n
