Gopal Dagnogo combines his West African heritage and Western influences in a contemporary, hybrid approach. He uses an expressive blend of painting\u2014acrylic, pastel, and ink\u2014on canvas and paper, without prior preparation, exploring the absurd and contradictions of everyday life in C\u00f4te d’Ivoire. His work develops a “contemporary mythology” that magnifies the banal, questioning Ivorian society and the globalization of consumption with satire and poetry, borrowing from Post-Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art.<\/p>\n
Gopal Dagnogo has a dual Ivorian and French background. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux before spending three years in Ouagadougou to learn the lost-wax bronze technique. He exhibits regularly in Dakar, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, New York, and Abu Dhabi. He participates in major biennials (Dak\u2019Art 2014\/2016, Kampala 2014) and takes part in residencies such as Art Omi (2014).
