Born in 1960 in Bristol, he lives and works in London.<\/p>\n
Dexter Dalwood constructs hybrid \u2018historical paintings\u2019 of places that are both constructed and imagined, devoid of human presence, representing various turning points, places or historical figures. The many allusions and references mixed in his paintings are treated elusively, but have an immediate attraction and power in large-scale canvases. These mixed compositions create a certain confusion that can give rise to new, complex and provocative constellations of meaning.<\/p>\n
Dexter Dalwood studied at St. Martins School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Recent solo exhibitions include Centro de las Artes San Agust\u00edn, Oaxaca (2022); Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL), Mexico City (2021); Galerie Hubert Winter, Vienna (2017); Centre Pasqu\u2019Art, Biel, Switzerland (2013); David Risley Gallery, Copenhagen (2012); Nolan Judin Gallery, Berlin (2011); and a major retrospective at FRAC Champagne-Ardennes, CAC Malaga and Tate St Ives, for which Dalwood was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2010. His work is held in public collections including the British Council, London; Tate, London; Saatchi Gallery, London; Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester; Galerie Pallant House, Chichester; Hamburger Bahnhof-Museum f\u00fcr Gegenwart, Berlin; Trevi Flash Museum of Contemporary Art, Trevi; Champagne-Ardennes, Reims; and Centre PasquArt, Biel, Switzerland.<\/p>\n
