Bernard FRIZE

Born in 1954, he lives and works in Paris and Berlin

Frize fosters chance and accident in a tension between the execution of a pre-established program and the part of the unforeseen that comes with it, in order to create an ideal of abstract painting. By painting in a uniform manner according to pictorial protocols that he invents and imposes on himself, the artist avoids to make choices and to introduce affect into the production of his work. Since the end of the 1970s, Bernard Frize has contributed to the renewal of the language of abstraction by questioning “the object-painting”.
